ESTIMATION OF BLEEDING TIME

Aim :To estimate and record the bleeding time

Apparatus ; sterile lancet , piece of filter paper , stopwatch , cotton

defination : Bleeding is the time interval of opontaneous unassited stoppage of bleeding

significance : Recording of bleeding time is used in the diagnosis and treatment of heamorrage disease. The bleeding time is also useful just before the operation such as tonsilection [removal of tonsils ] in such case it point out abnormal bleeding process to the physicians awareness so that they take proper precaution. the bleeding time is increased following conditions :
               Apoplastic anaemia , multiple , scurry, infecteous mononucleosis, glanzmanns disease


Duke's method: normal bleeding time 1-5 min
Ipy method : normal bleeding time 1-7 min
simplate method : less than 7 mins

Procedure : sterelised the finger tip take a bold prick to have a free flow of blood.
take a piece of filter paper and exactly after half  a minute after puncturing tightly touch the filter paper. repeat the above steps for every half minute until blood seazes to flow . record the time at which blood seazes to flow . determine the bleeding from record data .

Report : Bleeding time of ones own blood was recorded as 160 sec
